The InnerFight Way

A blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% for “general drivers” and 0.04% for “commercial drivers” is the legal level in the USA. Meanwhile, here in Dubai, the approach is, rightly, zero tolerance.

The reason for this is that factors such as reaction times, ability to focus, judgement, decision-making, and situational awareness are all impacted by alcohol. This may be common knowledge to many.

Sleep deprivation can impair the brain in very similar ways. Being awake for around 18 hours can have a similar effect to a blood alcohol concentration level of 0.05%, and being awake for 24 hours takes that comparably to 0.10%. The compounded impact of multiple nights of little or poor sleep also delivers similar results.

The fines for sleep deprivation are non-existent—perhaps the reason why many of us partake in it. The impact of it, however, on those around us, our jobs, and ultimately our health, is equally as serious as that of drink-driving.

Have a great week.

No Weakness.
