An Athletes Perspective Beyond the Bubble

Perspective is everything. And as an athlete, gaining perspective can be a game-changer. It's easy to get stuck in the daily grind, but taking a step back is crucial if you want to keep improving—not just physically, but mentally too.

So, how do you get that much-needed athlete perspective? I've found two strategies that work best.

The Power of Daily Reflection

This doesn't have to be a big thing. Just 5-10 minutes at the end of your day, when you won't be distracted, can make a huge difference. Take that time to think over your day or even your week.

A simple habit that brings clarity, focus, and helps you process the day.

Where are you right now compared to where you want to be? It's not about criticizing yourself but getting a snapshot of where you're at. This small habit helps you appreciate your progress and stay focused on where you're headed.

Stepping Out of Your Environment

Sometimes, you need a complete break—at least three days away from your usual environment. Whether it's a vacation or just an adventure away from home, stepping out of your routine gives you a new athlete perspective on your everyday life.

You can either stick to your usual habits or fall in line with the rhythm of wherever you are.

Either way, this change of scenery can highlight what's working in your life and what might need some tweaking.

This approach also requires you to be reflective and aware of your self in new surroundings, which only adds to the clarity you'll gain.

Embracing Growth Through Perspective

If you make these two practices a regular part of your life—and, most importantly, if you're honest with yourself during them—you'll give yourself a better chance to keep moving forward, both as an athlete and asa person.
