When we think about training, we often picture the challenge of the session itself - the pace of the intervals that will feel like our eyes are bleeding, the long hard grind of a trail run that turns out legs into concrete blocks , the numbers flashing back at us from the watch confirming that we are not the next Eliud Kipchoge or Keely Hodgkinson.
But here’s what we sometimes forget: the hardest part isn’t always in the session.
The real challenge often happens before we even start.
It’s the early alarm clock.
It’s finding childcare.
It’s saying no to plans with friends to get to bed early.
It’s balancing family, work, and life - just to carve out that window of time to train.
It’s saying no to that beer because you want to feel fresh for a long run.

So, when a session doesn’t go perfectly - when the pace feels off, or the reps don’t hit as they should - don’t be so hard on yourself.
The fact that you got there at all means you’ve already overcome more than most people will ever see.
