How to Move Better and Lift More Weight

Move Better to Perform Better
If you want to perform at your best, whether that’s in the gym, on the field, or just in everyday life, you need to move well first.
Range of motion and stability. You need both. Being great at one but poor at the other is where problems start. You could be as flexible as a yoga teacher, but if you don’t have the stability to control that range, you’re leaking performance and increasing your risk of injury.
Over the years, working with hundreds of clients, I’ve found that improving movement doesn’t need to be complicated. It starts with a simple question: Is your body balanced?
A small difference is normal, but there’s a big gap between slightly off and completely different. That gap is often where pain, compensation, and poor performance live.
Some Examples:
You can rotate fully one way, but not the other.
One hip is fully flexed; the other feels blocked.
During a squat or lunge, one knee collapses inward while the other tracks perfectly or both knees collapse.

Sometimes it’s one thing. Often, it’s a combination. And this is where people go down the rabbit hole using social media, jumping from fix to fix without ever addressing the root issue.
If you’re just looking to move and feel better, here’s a simple, practical starting point:
1. Restore Range of Motion
If you don’t have access to a position, you can’t control it.
Focus on controlled mobility work; the hips, ankles, and thoracic spine are a great place to start.
2. Build Stability in That Range
Once you gain movement, you need to own it.
Slow, controlled strength work, split squats, lunges, tempo movements help lock that in.
3. Train Both Sides Properly
Unilateral work (single leg, single arm) exposes and corrects imbalances.
Don’t avoid your weaker side, bring it up.
4. Keep It Simple and Consistent
You don’t need 15 corrective drills.
You need a few that address your limitations and do so consistently.
At the end of the day, better movement isn’t about chasing perfection. It’s about reducing
imbalances, improving control, and giving your body the tools it needs to perform efficiently.
Because when you move better, everything else gets better.
