Why Consistency is the Key to Endurance Success
When it comes to endurance training or really any training at all, the number one factor that guarantees success isn’t a secret workout, special recovery smoothie, a magic supplement or fancy gear… it’s consistency over time.
We often give ourselves permission to miss a session in a week and convince ourselves that it won’t makes much of a difference. After all — what's the harm in binning off a 5km in the grand scheme of things or a 30km ride skipped for a Netflix binge.
Missing that one session? Probably won’t make much difference. But zoom out. If you give yourself permission to skip that 45-60mins in a week, and each week you miss a session, extrapolate that over a month or a year and it all adds up! Stretch it over a year, and suddenly you could have run the entire length of Scotland from top to bottom!
That’s how consistency works — each session adds up, and so does each one you miss.
The Power of Showing Up
And here’s the powerful part: research shows that people who simply run regularly - even just once a week — have a 27% lower risk of death from all causes compared to those who don’t run at all.
So don’t chase perfect. Don’t stress about the odd bad day. Focus on showing up, week after week. Because consistency compounds - in fitness, in health, and in life.
