What is paleo?
As the name suggests, the Paleo way is based on the premise of eating how our ancestors ate. It’s a simple case of design. Our bodies are not designed to digest the highly processed, sugar laden, grain heavy diet that we see today. The Paleo framework is all about paring the way you eat back to our dietary beginnings.
The idea behind Paleo is to eat nutritionally dense foods. Food that is good for you, food that’s going to nourish you, and food that is anti-inflammatory. So, it’s less of the caveman talk and more about side-stepping the bad stuff that wreaks havoc on our immune, digestive and metabolic systems. It’s about embracing the consumption of natural, clean produce that leads to optimal health and wellbeing.

Who’s the mastermind behind it all?
I’m Holly,
I live in Dubai and I am the founder of Smith St Paleo.
So what’s it all about?
Food, and bloody good food at that. Food that will give you a high five, a skip in your step and a happy gut. Maybe it will also give you a smack in the chops as you realize that this is the way we should have been eating all along.
I know that’s what happened to me. I was toddling along, going about my business, leading what I thought to be a healthy enough lifestyle. I felt OK. But I didn’t want to feel just OK. I wanted to feel freaking awesome. So I started to work on it. You can’t expect different results by doing the same thing, right? So while I plugged away at a job that was working against me health-wise (I was a flight attendant for 12 years), I began doing my own research and study and started tweaking the way I cooked and ate. I tweaked and nudged until I gave it a big old shove into the world of Paleo and I’ve never looked back.
I mean, what’s not to like? You get to eat an abundance of awesome foods, your digestion works insanely well, you sleep better, your mind is clearer, you have a tonne of energy….it’s a no-brainer.
For years we’ve been told what to eat and what was supposedly healthy for us. Well it was all a big, fat lie. It’s time for all of us to do our own research, listen to our bodies and pursue a lifestyle that is nourished and healthy. I want our kids to grow up empowered and happy, not counting calories or addicted to junk food.
So stop eating crap, get back into the kitchen and learn to love food that loves you back.
